Now that the city is finally granting permits for outdoor events including road races, the Southwest Sports and Fitness Alliance, Southwest Baltimore Charter School, friends and neighbors are gearing up for the 10th Anniversary of the Sowebo Landmark 5k. It’s “the neighborhood race” coming back after a year off due to COVID and scheduled for October 3, 2021. Anyone 18 and under runs FREE. Register at https://sowebolandmark5k.org. It’s a timed road race that we introduced in 2011. Participants include highly competitive and recreational runners as well as those who will feel most comfortable just running a little, jogging, even walking, or pushing a stroller along the 3.1-mile course through the streets of Southwest Baltimore (Sowebo). Participants pass several historic landmarks. It is a signature event uniting neighbors, families, and local resources to create active, healthy communities.
We’ll be taking several COVID precautions including safe distanced, staggered starts to avoid all the congestion that normally takes place at the starting line. But not to worry, the race is chipped timed with each participant’s bib programmed to record the individual’s time, so it won’t matter when or where you start. Register now online at the website to ensure you get the right size T-shirt and save $5 off the race day price.
Contact me at sportsfitnessalliance@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like a souvenir poster that you can display in your window or frame as a keepsake. Thanks for your support and I’ll see you at the race.
